A Beader’s Reference.2

“This book covers the basics of beading and provides more than 200 designs and charts, as well as 12 step-by-stop projects.”

A Beader’s Reference offers more than 200 designs, charts basic stitches, and graphs. Beading has finally come into its own as a separate creative art and craft form, after being shuffled between the guise of jewelry and needlework for years. With the blossoming of beading interest comes a need for more unique designs and more ideas on new ways to work with beads and create unique works. Recognizing this need, Jane Davis wrote the new guide, “A Beader’s Reference.” This book covers the basics of beading and provides more than 200 designs and charts, as well as 12 step-by-stop projects. Set -up with two indexes, readers can quickly find an image according to category or bead stitch

.“A Beader’s Reference” begins with coverage of identifying basic stitches and graphs. Davis moves into charts, which are numbered and organized according to stitch. She introduces many pattern ideas, from small, simple repeats to large landscapes, including brick, peyote, loom and square, herringbone and netting stitches. More than 75 combined designs are offered for cords, edgings and fringe, as well as design galleries for each, depicting full-color photos of finished projects for inspiration. The 12 step-by-step projects include a dragon box band, ordinary bag fringe, striped bracelet, scissors chatelaine, matching bracelet and necklace and loomwork wall hangings. All projects have a detailed material list, instructions and helpful photographs.

Davis has been involved in arts and crafts throughout her life and discovered her beading niche in 1997. She has self published several beading books and has written “the Compete Guide to Beading Techniques” and “Decorative Wirework” for Krause Publications. She lives in California and stays busy with design contributions to magazines and teaching beadwork classes.
