About The Designer
Ellen Friedenberg is a lawyer in New York City. A few years ago, she rediscovered a childhood hobby -- and a bead artist emerged! Since then, Ellen’s designs have appeared in several publications, including Bead & Button magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007. (Three of her loomed cuff bracelets can be seen on the June 2005 cover of Bead & Button.) A member of the Bead Society of Greater New York, one of her loomed bracelets was included in World of Beads VI, a juried exhibit sponsored by the Bead Society at the American Craft Museum in 2003.
“I design and craft wearable art that combines loomwork and handsewn embellishments. When I design, I focus on each element of the final piece -- the color and finish of the beads, the shape of the embellishments, even the color of the thread. They all need to enhance the end result. I also enjoy the challenge of creating a pattern for a fairly small piece of loomwork. That means that every bead must count!
The “Alphabead Soup” choker shown here was made with opaque beads in neon colors on a white opal background; was embellished with multicolored drop beads; and was completed with a sterling silver clasp.
