Art Marketing 101
A Handbook for the Fine Artist (2nd edition)
By Constance Smith

Constance tells you EVERYTHING about marketing
your art in a clear, friendly, and well-written manner
WOW! Here’s how good this book is – before I could write this review, I went online and ordered it. That’s a first for me. Constance tells you EVERYTHING about marketing your art in a clear, friendly, and well-written manner. She starts with the psychological factors and attitudes you need to succeed and offers practical advice for ways to change the negative patterns that get in the way for so many of us. The remaining chapters cover: business basics, number crunching, legal protection, pricing, shipping and display, planning an exhibit, creating an image, résumés, photographing artwork, presentation finesse, navigating the art market, promo pieces, sales techniques, advertising, pitching the press, reps and galleries, shows and fairs, locating new markets, alternatives to sales, and marketing plans. The book is well indexed, loaded with contact information and further reading, and includes forms for a variety of business situations.
Constance advises you to read the book from start to finish and make notes to yourself in the wide margins. Even if you’ve been selling your art successfully for many years, you will learn a great deal in these pages. As soon as my copy arrives, it and a pencil are going on my night table and I’m starting at page 1. – Alice Korach
