BeadBugle News

Well we are into Month Two of the Beadbugle.Com evolution and again we have some new things to tell you about. First of all there are four new pages to introduce. The first new page is Publisher’s Page which features the “What’s Going on Now” column. The Co-Publisher Bill Johnson introduces the re-launch of the Bead Bazaar with FREE 365 day ads for everyone. That’s right, create and run as many ads as you want at no charge and each ad will run for a period of 365 days. Wow! What a deal. Highlight Featuring is an optional feature of the free ads and it is $12.00 per month. It will cause your ad to be favored over non-featured ads in searches and listings.

The second new page is “Video Direct View”, a listing of free videos that you can download and view about beading and jewelry and related subjects. These are simply videos that we have found on the internet and that you can click on the view. If you have a video that you would like listed on this page, simply let us know.

The third new page is a new monthly feature called “Teacher Profile”. Each issue we will feature one of the nationally know teachers that you see at the bead shows and society meetings that specializes in teaching classes. The purpose of this new feature is to let you expand your horizons and learn, in detail, about the teachers and their class subjects prior to signing up for their classes. It is also an excellent way to find the newer teachers for your bead store, society meeting or bead show. We hope you will like this new feature. It can be found in the Bead Scene section of the magazine.

The fourth and final new page for the December issue is the announcement of paid advertising within the main content of the magazine. We have heard from many of you that the smaller stores and artists would like a venue to advertise at a low cost. We partially addressed this issue with the FREE ads in the Bead Bazaar, but we went one step further by developing a program where you can advertise within the main body of the magazine for incredibly low prices.

You can visit our Sample Ad Page for some examples, but here it is in a nutshell. We are putting advertising ads ON SALE for a limited period of time, meaning that these prices will not last forever! All ads are for a period of one year or 12 issues and they require full payment in advance. Placement of ads begins with the January issue.

All ads must be complete and sent to us in jpeg format. We suggest that you sent us at least a 150-dpi or higher ad so that each ad will print sharply in the PDF edition of the magazine. You can change the ad each month as long as the new ad is received no later than the first of each month. Ads can run in full color or black and white depending on your preference.

Well that’s it for the month of December. We can hardly wait to tell you about what’s going to happen in January. You will just have to wait and see. Bead On!

Cruising the Seas

The trend of dreaming up innovative firsts for new-builds continues with Celebrity's announcement that its upcoming Solstice will introduce a fresh art program onboard: glassblowing.

The cruise line has teamed up with the world-renowned Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, to introduce cruisers to its traveling exhibit, the "Hot Glass Show." Since 2001, the show has traveled to museums, art fairs and public festivals around the world, but this will be its first foray at sea.

What exactly is the Hot Glass Show? On Celebrity Solstice, three resident "gaffers" -- glassblowing artists -- will conduct live glassmaking demonstrations, lectures and workshops in a custom-designed outdoor studio, located on the ship's upper deck. The gaffers will create items such as vases and bowls as a narrator explains each step in the process and answers guest’s questions.

The show will be free and offered several times per voyage, on all itineraries. For a preview, visit www.cruisecelebritysolstice.com.

Though there are no concrete plans at this point for hands-on passenger participation, a spokeswoman for Celebrity tells us that Celebrity and The Corning Museum of Glass are exploring ways to allow some guests to experience the art of glassblowing for themselves. Celebrity is also in the process of developing products that will be available for purchase that will complement the type of artistry the Hot Glass Show will bring to the ship.

The Corning Museum of Glass' Hot Glass Show has been seen at such venues as the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and America's 400th Anniversary btn_downloadebookCelebration at Jamestown. The show will debut when Solstice launches in December 2008..
