Bead Embroidery Techniques

.. it was like being bathed anew in this venue of beading .... Ease, humor and warm intent are on the screen and make you want to try the technique for yourself .... You’ll want it in your personal library.

The techniques of bead embroidey are simple, but its possibilities are enormous. Internationally renowned artist and teacher Carol Perrenoud covers a wide variety of applications for this fabric embellishment technique from incorporation into a wall piece and crazy quilting to completely covering a surface to make a brooch, as well as much more. The stitches she covers include canvas-work, running stitch, scatter beading, lazy stitch, backstitch, couching, feather stitch, stem stitch, beaded edgings, beaded fringes, and more. As the video progresses, you create a sample of stitches that will serve as a valuable reference tool for future projects. The projects Carol teaches also put all the stitches to use. You’ll make a canvas-work floral pin cushion, a nautilusshaped pin, a house-shaped pin, and an embellished doll using all kinds of beaded crazy-quilt stitches and fringe. Plus, Carol’s enthusiasm and helpful hints and tips will inspire you to design your own projects.

While this video is suitable for a novice beader, more experienced beaders will also gain valuable techniques and embellishment ideas. Carol has taught all forms of beadwork throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, and England. She is also the presenter in three other outstanding Victorian Video beading videos: Beadweaving: Peyote Stitch, Bead Crochet, and Beadweaving: Herringbone Stitch.

The reviewers are united in their praise of Bead Embroidery Techniques: Jo Ann Patterson of Denver, CO, reports in the Handweavers Guild of America’s Magazine, Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot, “Her basic stitch instruction will build a good foundation for anyone interested

in learning this craft ...The techniques taught are flawlessly executed.” “When I first watched this video, I wasn’t too impressed,” says Mary Timme in the Rocky Mountain Bead Society Newsletter. But since then, “I’ve done other kinds of beading. I watched this video again, and this time I’m impressed! Very impressed as a matter of fact! ... it was like being bathed anew in this venue of beading .... Ease, humor and warm intent are on the screen and make you want to try the technique for yourself .... You’ll want it in your personal library.” And in the Video Librarian, J. Asula writes, “... presented by friendly and well-organized instructor, Carol Perrenoud. Sporting solid instruction and fine close-up camerawork, this sure-to-be-popular crafts program is suitable for beginners, but also provides enough tips and tricks for experienced beaders.

Definitely recommended.”
