This small 5.5 x 8.5 inch book is crammed with the how-tos for ten project sets, to include six earrings, five necklaces, four bracelets and a delectable amulet purse that is utterly medieval in its linkage (pun intended).
As the title suggests, this is third in a series published by the Helwig Industries to illustrate and promote the use of their spiffy wire -designing tool, the WigJig, either the Delphi or Olympus jigs. This small 5.5 x 8.5 inch book is crammed with the how-tos for ten project sets, to include six earrings, five necklaces, four bracelets and a delectable amulet purse that is utterly medieval in its linkage (pun intended). As promised, the projects swing from beginning level” Winding Road Earrings” to intermediate” Designer Bead Necklace (my personal favorite that showcases a lampworked bead). Seven of the projects have a decidedly romantic flavor to them, induced by the loop-de-loop fussiness of their design, as well as the remaining contemporary styled pieces.
There are some truly wonderful ideas in forming various clasps and links, many of which incorporate small beads. Although virtually every page features detail photos in black and white, I would have wished for stronger contrast and larger details to improve the clarity for my own aging eyes. My other critical bleat is that a glossary of terms and tools would be most helpful” this serial publication mentions nylon jaw pliers and a master coiler (sounds potentially wicked!), but fails to provide neither a general use nor explanation thereof to this hapless beginner in wire-design. I reemphasize the recommendation in the book that practice, with inexpensive wire, is the best approach” moreover, the book does provide an e-mail address and web site for additional questions and tips.
