Knit With Beads: Stunning Shawls and Wraps Easy Techniques 15 Beautiful Designs by Scarlet Taylor
“If you’ve ever loved your knitting so much you wanted to embellish it, you’re not alone. When knitwear designer Scarlet Taylor was inspired to adorn her knitting, she headed for the neighborhood bead store and discovered a world of colorful beads: some shiny, some glittery, some iridescent, but all warm and vibrant. With a little trial and error, she discovered that a variety of beads could be worked into nearly any knitted design—in other words, that her designs could all wear a touch of “bling” that she felt her knitted fabrics deserved.
In Knit With Beads: Stunning Shawls and Wraps, Taylor shares fifteen beautiful designs, all with the beads to cozy fireside shawl easy enough for a beginner; the beads are simply added to the yarn using a bead-stringing needle. A beaded “tweed poncho” uses different color beads on a solid color yarn to sprinkle flecks of color all over the fabric. A casual Nautical Shrug, knit on circular needles, uses a slip-stitch technique to add the beads, creating a garment with beaded mock cables. Taylor even helps knitters take up the slightly more challenging task of knitting with sequins, and offers a design for a Shimmering Shawlette that is appropriate for the most elegant gown.
Taylor proves that, whether small or large, beads can be worked with an enormous variety of yarns and patterns, adding a special element of texture, color, and sparkle to knitted designs. In her book, Knit With Beads: Beautiful Gifts, coming out November 2007, Taylor shares patterns for projects with a little bling for your loved ones, including a cozy neck warmer, a Christmas stocking, and an assortment of bags, hats, and socks, all perfect for holiday giving.
