The surface of a Pietersite looks rather chaotic due to the streaks and colors going every direction. This happens primarily during the formation of the crystal as the constituent materials are broken apart, swirled every which way, then were reformed and cemented together by Quartz. This particular process where in stones and crystals are broken apart to form the resulting gemstone is referred to as brecciated. Pietersite belongs to a branch of the Tiger's Eye family called Riebeckite

a0c7_2An extremely rare gem, pietersite is found at only two locations across the world- Hunan in China and Nambia in Africa. Due to its limited production the prices of this beautiful gemstone has risen sharply over the last two decades. Its innate beauty and mystical properties make it an increasingly desired gemstone. And what’s more the gemstones physical properties to make it an absolute asset as ornamental pieces and more. The gemstone displays a high btn_downloadebookhardness of 7 on the moh scale and therefore is amongst the hardiest gems for jewelry making..
